Mitutoyo has developed two new products that will be released for sale on October 10. One is the space-saving, low-cost "RA-1500" roundness tester, which is designed to measure the roundness and cylindrical contour of small workpieces; the other is a popular hybrid-type surface measuring machine, "Formtracer CS-3000", which has been given the functions seen in top-class model machines. These two new measuring machines will be displayed at "the 21st Japan International Machine Tool Fair (JIMTOF2002)", which opens on October 28, 2002 at the Tokyo Big Sight. Small motors and roller bearing are important components that determine the performance of computers, various OA equipment, and information devices. As these components are becoming smaller, producing less noise, less vibration, and higher rotating accuracy, the importance of precision processing technologies and the quality control, which supports these technologies, is increasing. The "Roundtest RA-1500" is a "space-saving", "low-cost" roundness/cylindricity measuring machine with a high cost-performance, designed for the measurement of small components while maintaining the accuracy of a higher-class machine. Centering and leveling when setting-up workpieces is supposed to be a most time-consuming procedure in measuring roundness. The RA-1500' s D.A.T. (Digital Adjustment Table) system, however, makes it all easy: the operator can adjust the center and level simply by inputting values according to the instructions on the screen. This, together with the automatic measuring function, by which a series of measuring actions can be automatically executed once the machine is taught them, contribute to greatly reducing work time. In addition, the RA-1500 employs "ROUNDPAK Ver. 5", the latest version of Mitutoyo' s roundness/cylindricity analysis program known for its various functions and high operability, to provide the level of data processing that is equal to that of top-class models. On the other hand, to be competitive in the field of manufacturing components for various information devices, a reduction of manufacturing time is a requirement that is becoming more and more difficult to fulfill. The same can be said about the contour and surface roughness evaluations, and speeding-up the inspection process is becoming a big requirement. The "Formtracer CS-3000" is a hybrid surface roughness/contour measuring machine that allows both contour and surface roughness evaluations by tracing the surface of workpiece just once with its stylus. With the newly developed detector that allows measurements with high-resolution in a wide range, Mitutoyo has succeeded in increasing the range of applications while keeping the price low. For data analysis the CS-3000 employs "FORMTRACERPAK", a contour and surface roughness analyses program that is also used by the CS-5000, a top-class model in the series. This program allows two different types of analysis from the data acquired by one measurement. Thus, the CS-3000 greatly increases the customer' s productivity by providing various data analyses at high-speed and at the price of a general-purpose type machine.

(2)	Simultaneous measurement, analysis of contour and surface roughness
	•	Both contour and surface roughness data can be obtained simply by tracing the workpiece once, i.e. by measuring once. Both measurement data can be processed by one program, and reports on both analyses can be printed out together.
(3)	Contour and surface roughness analysis program "FORMTRACEPAK" installed
	•	The two programs that have been successful in each field, "FORMPAK-1000" for contour analysis and "SURFPAK-SV" for surface roughness analysis, are upgraded and combined.
(4)	Various options are available
	•	Various optional accessories are available, such as: the patent-pending "3-axes adjustment table", which allows the operator to perform axis-alignment and leveling with ease by simply following the guidance in the measurement of cylindrical workpieces; the auto-leveling table (patented) that performs fully automatic leveling, etc.
