Mitutoyo Corporation, which has been in the pursuit of automation and high throughput in form measuring instruments, has achieved its goal by developing the world ' s first series of CNC form measuring instruments for unmanned operations. These are: the "CNC Surface Roughness Measuring Instrument SURFTEST EXTREME" series, the "CNC Contour Measuring Instrument CONTRACER EXTREME" series, and the "CNC Surface Roughness & Contour Measuring Instrument FORMTRACER EXTREME" series. These innovative series will be released for sale on April 21, 2003. Also to be released at the same time will be the new "ROUNDTEST EXTREME" series roundness/cylindrical contour measuring instrument. Mitutoyo answers the ever-diversifying needs of the market with a full line-up of these CNC-type measuring instruments.
Form-measuring instruments are used in a wide range of applications in various fields. They are used for dimensional tolerance measurements, graphical displays of surface texture, geometrical tolerance measurements, and so on, in various industries. With the conventional manual type instruments, however, it was necessary to change settings for measuring each point when there were multiple measuring points on one workpiece. Also, in many cases, for certain components that require ideally a total inspection, a conventional instrument provided only inefficient inspections, since only one workpiece could be measured at a time with such an instrument. In other cases, instead of conducting a total inspection, only samplings were performed for the purpose of reducing the inspection time. In order to answer the very demanding needs of the market (which meant to provide solutions to these problems and at the same time to reduce total man-hours for lower production costs), Mitutoyo has developed and merchandised the world ' s first new CNC form-measuring instruments that position the stylus at the highest speed in history, and with which high-throughput and unmanned precision measurements have been finally achieved. This achievement was made possible by many new technologies based on the precision measuring control technologies that Mitutoyo has acquired over the years as a leading manufacturer of CMMs and vision measuring systems.
Twelve different models of the new CNC form-measuring instruments are available, which offer a wide range of variation of detectors according to the application ミ for surface roughness measurement, contour measurement, and surface roughness and contour measurements combined. Also available are four models of the CNC roundness/cylindrical contour measuring instruments. With a full line-up of a total of sixteen models, Mitutoyo offers its customers a variety of choices for an instrument that best suits the customer ' s measuring needs.
