Mitutoyo Corporation announced that it has developed and will start sales of two ABS Digimatic height gages, HDS-H30C and HDS-H60C, forming a new series of digital height gages meeting market needs for both functionality and pricing. The new products are the culmination of 45 years of effort since the company began producing height gages.
Like vernier calipers and micrometers, height gages are a dimensional measuring device indispensable in today's machining industry. Mitutoyo started the production of height gages in 1959. To commemorate its 45th year of production, the company has developed the HDS-H30C and the HDS-H60C, ABS Digimatic height gages that are the culmination of customer needs that the company has integrated as the industry's leading manufacturer in addition to the technology and know-how accumulated during that period.
Both the HDS-H30C and the HDS-H60C are equipped with a vertically moving handle and a large clamp lever, which were previously components for the two-column type alone. To help improve workability, Mitutoyo has also added a design change that allows the gage base, which serves as the handle for moving on the granite surface plate and other reference surfaces, to fit the operator's hands. Another improvement is an increase in the rigidity of the column, which will have a direct effect on the precision of height measurement, by increasing the dimensions of the gage's section to 35×15mm so that its sectional area is twice as large as the previous model (the HDS-30C). This has brought about an improvement in both precision and durability as well. The new products also have an absolute scale, with which there is no need to set the origin point each time the power is turned on. Their newly designed power-saving custom IC has also increased the battery life by four-fold compared with the previous model.
While boasting an improvement in functionality, the new products have also successfully achieved a major reduction in costs compared with the previous model.
