Mitutoyo Corporation (head office: Takatsu-ku, Kawasaki; president: Kazusaku Tezuka) has developed and released the SV-3000CNC Surftest Extreme on October 10. The product is a column-moving CNC surface roughness measuring system, which is optimized to handle the measurement of the surface texture of large parts. The product will be exhibited at the upcoming 22nd Japan International Machine Tool Fair (JIMTOF 2004), which begins on November 1 at Tokyo Big Sight.
In April 2003, Mitutoyo released the world's first CNC form measuring system, capable of moving at high speeds--a maximum drive speed of 200mm/s. With this capability, and the function of automatic measurement using a part program, the system has successfully achieved both high throughput and efficiency in the measurement of surface textures. In particular, models with the Y-axis table have been highly acclaimed because they facilitate the automatic measurement of the surface roughness of multiple cross-sections, thus leading to improvements in terms of saving labor-time. However, the conventional "table-moving" structure had a disadvantage in that it was difficult to automatically measure large parts because of a limited weight of loading for the table.
This problem has now been solved by the newly developed SV-3000CNC. The "column-moving" CNC surface roughness measuring system enables its detector unit to move and position in the X, Y, and Z directions. Its ability to fix the work under measurement barely affects the system's weight limitation and makes it possible to measure engine parts and other large workpieces.
