  The CE marking is a mandatory obligation when exporting and selling products within the EU, and we cannot distribute products within the EU without the CE mark. The CE mark is a mark that can be displayed only if it is complying with the safety regulations prescribed in the European Directive and the safety regulations depends on products. 4 main directives that apply to Mitutoyo�s measuring instruments are the EMC Directive, the Low Voltage Directive, the Machinery Directive, and the RoHS Directive. Each Directive has the following features.
EMC Directive (Electromagnetic Compatibility Directive)
The EMC Directive limits electromagnetic emissions from equipment in order to ensure that, when used as intended, such equipment does not disturb radio and telecommunication, as well as other equipment. For this reason, most of products that use electricity are subject to this directive including instruments using batteries and household wall sockets. Low Voltage Directive The Low Voltage Directive is a directive that prevents risk of electric shock from electrical leakage or electric fire due to defects or breakdowns of products. The equipment (device) that uses AC voltage of 50 - 1000V or DC voltage of 75 - 1500V are targeted for this directive. Machinery Directive With machines that operate under electrical control, there is a danger that people will be injured by the movement of the machine. In this directive, it is regulated to avoid dangers to people by installing safety control equipment, sensors, and by isolating people from machines. RoHS Directive RoHS Directive is a directive that restricts the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment. The specified hazardous substances are below: �Lead �Cadmium �Mercury �Hexavalent chromium �Polybrominated biphenyls (PBB) �Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE) �Bis(2-ethylhexyl)phthalate(DEHP) �Butyl benzyl phthalate(BBP) �Dibutyl phthalate(DBP) �Diisobutyl Phthalate(DIBP) *Our products fall under Cat.9 �Monitoring and control instruments including industrial monitoring and control instruments�. The restriction of DEHP, BBP, DBP and DIDP applies to products in Cat.9 from 22 July 2021. Safety standards based on these directives are standards for each product or each product group, and they are prescribed as consistent standards for directives. Products are required to perform design and test safely in conforming with these standards. Products covered by Mitutoyo conform to these requirements and Mitutoyo affixes the CE marking on the products. |
